A Winning Formula…..

The Vision:

To transform a drab, dreary, long-abandoned office space, in the heart of Bramhall village, into an exciting and vibrant learning environment! When we were approached by Mathnasium, a Global Company that owns over 900 maths only learning centres worldwide, we jumped at the opportunity to help them transform their new premises into the opening of one of their first UK centres. Site meetings with our client helped us to understand the amazing concept behind Mathnasium and how their customised learning method helps children to become passionate about maths whilst increasing their skills, knowledge and confidence. Such background information proved invaluable, at the planning stage, so that we could capture the Mathnasium ethos, create an interesting and exciting learning environment and ensure that the completed renovation would encompass all of this.

The Process:

With a clear brief set out, a budget submitted and agreed, our client returned home to the States confident in our ability to project manage the fit-out until her return a month later. Fuelled by the amazing coffee from the neighbouring Marjoes (trust us - you must try it!) we set about stripping everything out of the premises. Although the initial brief had been predominantly cosmetic work, it became apparent, as the project gathered steam, that by making a couple of minor alterations to the existing layout we could make a huge difference ultimately by utilising every single centimetre of space to its full capacity. These small adaptations would negate the need for further alterations in years to come, as the centre grows its student base and would work out a much more cost-effective option for our client in the long term. With an updated scope of works agreed with our client, we liaised with our colleagues over in Building Control before carrying out the required structural works to create a disabled access toilet, secure storage area, and a slightly larger, more streamlined kitchenette area. This was in addition to the initial, planned cosmetic works of bespoke meter cupboards, repairs to the shop front, fitting of internal door frames, skirting and architraves as well as the installation of a suspending ceiling system.

The Result

A few small tweaks, a little TLC plus a fresh lick of paint and this once sad and neglected, old office space had undergone a dramatic transformation in only a matter of weeks and on a very modest budget. A dynamic space now fit for purpose as one of the first UK Mathnasium Centres; an exciting and engaging environment in which 6 to 16-year-olds can improve upon and learn new math skills. We were fortunate enough to be invited along to the open day and it was a real privilege; the place was quite literally buzzing with excitement; fun is not usually a term you would associate when it comes to learning maths but the Mathnasium concept is unique in its approach and fun is exactly what it makes it – a fantastic space and an innovative teaching process = an A+ winning formula!
